Mangia with Mattenga’s! | Richmond Advantage

The mouth-watering, signature smell of cooked garlic hits you before you walk in the door.  As you grab the handle to walk inside, it’s impossible to avoid another awesome olfactory invasion: the distinct aroma of crisp, baked dough.

Welcome to Mattenga’s Pizzeria, a family-owned and family-run eatery serving delicious pizza, pasta, salads, wings and Italian desserts in a relaxed setting to customers from Schertz, Cibolo, Selma, and San Antonio.

“We are known for our amazing, New York style pizza,” stressed Khris Dysart, Director of Operations at Mattenga’s “Every single ingredient is either made in house, or it’s fresh cut in house, including our dough. If you’re not hungry when you arrive, you definitely will be when you walk into Mattenga’s.”

Mattenga’s opened its first restaurant in 2014. In the ensuing seven years, it has built a steady following of customers who stayed unfailingly loyal during the pandemic. Like many established pizza eateries nationwide, the pandemic turned into an economic boon for Mattenga’s as families opted for pizza as a meal that is quickly-served and affordable.

“The pandemic did nothing but help us out and boost sales tremendously,” said Dysart who noted that many new customers have found Mattenga’s over the last 18 months.

Dysart credits the business’ improving fortunes, to some degree, to the powerful partnership enjoyed with Richmond Advantage during the pandemic. Mattenga’s purchases straws, food containers, receipt printer paper, janitorial supplies, and PPE from the team at Richmond.

“They’re a family run business much like we are,” said Dysart. “If I call them early in the day, I can usually get what I need that very day. Their website makes it very easy to order. There are no shipping costs or delivery fees. What’s not to like?”

Dysart also pointed out that Richmond often procures pricing for consumables at a far better price than broad line vendors. “They’ve really wowed me during the last year. They don’t try to take advantage of their customers. They try to take care of their customers. That’s an amazing thing and not something most businesses will do,” said Dysart.

The Mattenga’s relationship with Richmond is one that Dysart sees expanding as the restaurant grows as well. Right now, Mattenga’s has locations in Schertz and at 1604 and O’Connor in San Antonio, but a third location is coming soon to New Braunfels.

“It’s been a wonderful experience working with Richmond Advantage,” said Dysart.
